Video Game Releases Coming in July 2018

  • June 30, 2018
  • Mischa McGill

Summer is in full swing — in some parts of the world, anyway — we made it through E3, and more video game releases are upon us. July won’t see a massive list of AAA titles by any means, but there are still some notable new releases, re-releases, and remasters to think about.

Check out the highlights of July’s new video games below, followed by a comprehensive list of all games launching this coming month.

July 3

Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – Set 50 years after the original Red Faction, this sequel is a remaster with updated graphics and 4k support. The punny “Re-Mars-tered” edition will automatically be added to your Steam library on PC if you already own a copy of the original game. Otherwise it will cost $30.

July 13

Captain Toad Treasure TrackerCaptain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Switch, 3DS) – Those that missed this gem on Wii U will soon get a chance to snag it on either Nintendo Switch or 3DS — or both! Originally released in 2014, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker comes to modern consoles with all new levels set in Super Mario Odyssey’s New Donk City.

Earthfall (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – Finally coming out of Early Access, Earthfall is a co-op shooter where human forces try to push back against an alien invasion. Complete objectives, fortify and defend holdouts, and use 3D printers to create more weapons, barricades, and turrets to get the job done.

Octopath TravelerOctopath Traveler (Switch) – The highly anticipated Square Enix turn-based RPG Octopath Traveller is coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch the middle of next month. This new title is made by the same team which was behind the Bravely Default series of games and features a unique “HD 2D” art style.

July 24

No Man’s Sky (Xbox One) – The almost infamous space-exploration game is coming to Xbox at long last. The game originally released in August of 2016 on PS4 and PC to enormous criticism of its lackluster gameplay and features, despite Hello Games promising much more upfront. No Man’s Sky has seen many patches and expansions in the last two years, so Xbox One players should feel a little more at ease knowing they’re (hopefully) getting their money’s worth with this release.

The Persistence (PlayStation VR) – In this stealth first-person horror game, science and research vessel The Persistence is out of control and heading for disaster. Following a failed teleporter experiment, much of the crew have become mutated, roaming about the ship, and killing the last of the human survivors. The Persistence is a rougelike where your character changes with each death.

Those are the highlights. Check out the full list of July 2018 releases below.

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
