Ubisoft has announced the first patch for their recently released game For Honor. The announcement was made on the official subreddit. The update will fix several issues in the game and will also feature some balancing changes.

The biggest changes to the game will be made to the bots replacing players and also the Guard Break system.

Bots replacing players

The team has taken player feedback into account and has decided to make a major change to the bots system. Players that leave in Duel, Brawl and Elimination modes will now be replaced with a dead bot. This is a massive change to the current system that replaced players with a bot that has full health.

Guard Break Counter system

For Honor players will be pleased to hear that the developers are planning on changing the current Guard Break system.  The developers will be reverting the system back to how it worked in the beta. This should allow players to consistently counter a Guard Break.

Balancing and Bugs

Conqueror and Beserker

These two heroes are currently bugged so that they can combo into a free Guard Break when the enemy blocks a light attack from them.  This issue should be fixed very soon.

Peacekeeper

This hero has a bug that doesn’t add the bleed effect to the second and third stabs after Guard Breaking an opponent.

Valkyrie

This hero has quite a few changes coming. The first modifications are to her light attacks so that they have a reduced recovery time and so there’s less time between the light chain attacks. There will also be changes to the Shield Crush ability so players can link it with a light attack. Players can expect to see some changes for the Pouncing Thrust and Hunter’s Strike to increase their damage while allowing them to be combo’d with other attacks.

The full patch notes for this upcoming update can be found on the subreddit here.

fixing the guard break is tremendous but there’s still the problem with the game being played like MK or any other fighting game where it rewards “juggling” over actual technique and is centered around “combos”. that may be fine for those types but i thought this game was going to be a little different. i also think making some attacks unable to be blocked was a mistake. now, if a big, strong raider type wants to come down with a heavy, stronger than normal attack, it would be cool if you tried to block this it instead knocked you down or caused the parry effect. the attack how it is, where it just hits you no matter what is really dumb considering the stance changing and everything involved with the game. I know what any game is thinking after this and that’s “you can see it coming so it’s your fault if you get hit” but the argument isn’t how good we are at the game, it’s the question whether or not a mechanic like that belongs in this game especially since if you dodge back there’s a great chance your attacker will slide with you because of the shitty ubisoft mechanics, but that’s a whole other discussion. ultimately, it’s a bit more of an arcade game than i had hoped and it’s bogged down but stupid gamer tropes.
