AGDQ 2021 day six has come to an end, leaving just one day left in this week-long speedrunning marathon. The weekend days of any GDQ marathon are usually packed with awesome speedruns to watch, and day six of AGDQ 2021 was no exception. The morning had some intense shooters, a great block of indie PC games, and a drizzling of Nintendo platformers to round it out. The afternoon and evening held even more variety, ranging from RPG speedruns to classic 3D Mario games. We’ve been glued to our screens trying to watch as much as possible, so we’ve whipped up this list of the best speedruns of AGDQ 2021 day six. We weren’t able to catch everything, so we recommend that you also check out the other speedruns not listed here. You’ll likely find something worth watching!

The penultimate day of AGDQ 2021 had some truly killer runs, so here are our picks for the best speedruns of AGDQ 2021 day six!
Timesplitters 2 is one of the best first-person shooters of all time, so this speedrun by EmosewaMC was one of my most anticipated games of the run. Although it started off a bit rocky, this Hard mode run quickly became one of my AGDQ 2021 day six favorites, both due to the nostalgia and high-quality commentary. As EmosewaMC jumped through time, blazing through baddies on a quest to retrieve the time crystals, he showed off superior time-splitting skill, opting for clean shots and movement over exploitative glitches. Even without my incredible bias for Timesplitters, this run held some of the most memorable moments of the entire marathon, making it one of the best speedruns of AGDQ 2021.

Fangames are a unique breed of platformer. They’re usually incredibly frustrating and punishing, due to exceptionally tight jumps, one-hit deaths, and crazy bosses. These free-to-play indie titles are often packed with references to other games, whether with familiar levels, nostalgic tunes, or boss and enemy cameos. This run of the classic I Wanna Be the Fangame by Wolsk was so entertaining that it encouraged me to go online, download a few fangames, and start playing. This speedrun is deceptively simple looking, but you can tell the amount of patience and skill that’s required to complete the dastardly sets of 2D obstacles. If you have a heart for retro gaming and love to watch impressive gameplay, this is a must-watch run from AGDQ 2021 day six.

Luigi’s Mansion has always been one of my favorite games. It’s like a weird version of Resident Evil for kids, with a ghost-hunting formula that really enthralled me as a kid. In this speedrun by HDlax, Luigi’s fearful night in a haunted mansion is much, much briefer than normal, clocking in at just over 10 minutes. Although Luigi’s Mansion isn’t a long game by any stretch, this speedrun skips a huge portion of the game by utilizing a handful of out-of-bounds clips. After defeating the first boss Chauncy, Hdlax took a few attempts to execute a huge out-of-bounds trick, allowing him to skip all the way to the final boss. Although this speedrun skips a huge portion of the game, it’s still incredibly impressive and fun to watch.

Every speedrun race at AGDQ 2021 has been ultra-close, and this 3-runner race of Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins was another fantastically competitive watch. Held between three of the best Super Mario Land 2 runners in the scene, this quick race offered some quirky Mario platforming and great commentary. Mario Land 2 doesn’t get nearly as much love as some of the other more popular Super Mario entries, so we were more than excited to watch this display of Game Boy skill.

The Nintendo 64 classic Majora’s Mask has seen some significant speedrun improvements over the past few years, and this Any% run by ClaireLynnD is the fastest we’ve ever seen a run completed. In most Majora’s Mask speedruns, the player would at least be required to visit various dungeons, executing a few huge time-saving tricks. In this run, ClaireLynnD showed off a brand new route that involves manipulating the save-file name to trick the game into some major skips. Instead of dashing around Termina, collecting masks and solving puzzles, Claire made her way through the intro section of the game and then pulled off a precise trick in the Astral Observatory. By confusing the game into thinking Link was located in a different area entirely, Claire was able to skip directly to the last cutscene, ending this otherwise lengthy journey in under 30 minutes!

If you thought regular Super Mario 64 speedruns were impressive, wait until you see this blindfolded run by Bubzia from AGDQ 2021 day six. Not only does Bubzia utilize the “16-star” route, which bypasses collecting a big chunk of power stars by using the famous backwards long-jump trick, but he does the entire run without being able to see. Since Bubzia has to rely on muscle memory and audio cues, the movement is incredibly calculated, using basic attacks and camera switches to gain perfect angles toward the goal. The amount of skill and patience required to consistently perform a speedrun like this is unbelievable. Much like Bubzia’s previous blindfolded run at SGDQ 2020, this Super Mario 64 speedrun blew our minds. If you only have the time to watch a few runs from AGDQ 2021, we highly recommend checking this one out.

Here at A9K, we’re big fans of the Yakuza franchise. In fact, we’ve been playing Yakuza: Like a Dragon between runs! It’s no big surprise then, that Froob’s run of Yakuza 6 was one of our most anticipated of the entire marathon. This hilarious and well-commentated run lived up to our expectations, as is usual with Froob’s runs. Over this two hour run, Froob rampaged through the streets of Kamurocho, brawling his heart out. Thanks to the generous donations of the AGDQ 2021 viewers, we got to watch the infamous “rugby baby” cutscene, the contents of which I won’t spoil here. In addition to showing off his talented gameplay, Froob also did an excellent job explaining the remarkably convoluted story of Yakuza 6 in a digestible way. If Yakuza games interest you, but you’ve never really seen the appeal, check this run out.

With 24 hours of programming, we weren’t able to watch everything, so please keep that in mind.
