No Man’s Sky? More like one man’s sky, am I right?!
No Man’s Sky is so close by now. After a long wait, the game is finally out on August 9 for PS4 players, and August 12 for PC players. Considering we’ve been waiting for years at this point, another week and some change should be no big deal, right? For one man, a week and some change was too much to ask. He had an opportunity to get the game early, and he took it.
The dude goes by the name “Daymeeuhn” on Reddit. Daymeeuhn must have some pretty deep pockets, because he spent $1,300 on an early copy of No Man’s Sky that was listed on eBay. How on earth a game this popular ended up on eBay over a week before release is a mystery to me. Some part of me thinks that maybe this is all a big publicity stunt set up by No Man’s Sky developer Hello Games founder Sean Murray. Suspicions aside, our rich friend got the game early and has been posting gameplay videos to Twitch, YouTube, and DailyMotion. His videos were all taken down officially, but you can still find alternate versions out there if you’re determined.
At the beginning of his initial stream Daymeeuhn quips, “Sean Murray, if you’re watching, I’m an asshole. I’m sorry.” Murray doesn’t seem interested in replying to this guy personally, but he did send out a tweet after learning about the videos. “We’ve spent years filling No Man’s Sky with surprises,” he says. “You’ve spend years waiting. Please don’t spoil it for yourself.” Again, this all seems like a bit of a stunt to me – some cheap viral marketing – but maybe it’s legitimate. At any rate, there’s no need to be jealous. You’ll be able to explore the known (and unknown) galaxy very soon on August 9.
