This is melee combat like we’ve never seen.

For Honor

For Honor is a brand new IP from Ubisoft, and it looks like a hell of a good time. This is basically the weapon-based melee brawler that we’ve been craving ever since we were 90s kids. It’s the ultimate fantasy mashup. Knights in incredible-looking armor, samurai with katanas longer than you are tall, and hulking vikings with braided beards brandishing enormous axes… they’re all here, and they’re all duking it out. Who would win in a fight between a highly skilled knight with a morning star and an enraged viking who feels no pain? Now you can find out in For Honor.

Ubisoft made a pretty good showing for its game at its E3 conference this year, and we’ve been seeing a lot of new footage and features out of Gamescom. We also learned that each of the three factions will have four available classes. Each faction will have a well-balanced, all-around fighter, a quick and nimble assassin type, a larger, slower, more powerful tank type, and a hybrid type for advanced players.

Are you eager to get your hands on this one? Me too. The game won’t be coming out until mid-February, but Ubisoft will be holding a closed alpha next month. You could get a chance to play For Honor September 15-18, and all you have to do is sign up. Click here and register. You’ll need a Uplay account, of course, and you’ll have to choose a preferred platform and faction. Do keep in mind that Ubisoft will likely want varied data. PS4 owners will be the most abundant, and I have a feeling that most people will pick either samurai or vikings. To further your chances of being chosen, I’d go with the Xbox One or PC version if you’re able, and you may want to pick knights for kicks. There’s also an option for those who don’t know which faction to represent, so that may be pretty safe as well – maybe they’ll assign one to you? Good luck, and I hope to see you on the field of battle. Look for a Templar wielding a claymore.
