It’s a very sad day for Minecraft players all over the world. The popular Pixelmon mod has been forced to close its doors yesterday.

“we must announce that Pixelmon is ending its development”

The developers of the mode have finally received a request from the Pokemon Company. As a result, the team are shutting their doors for good. This is something which has been expected for several years now. The team posted a link to their statement on Twitter yesterday.

Isi, an administrator for Pixelmon, told Kotaku that the team had been expecting this to happen for some time.  “Especially now, with mind of an Pokemon game in-dev for the Switch” states Isi. However, they note that “it’s a shame that it’s come to an end” especially as the mod has such an incredible community surrounding it.

As several users on Twitter have pointed out, this news could spell the end for a large number of YouTube channels dedicated to making content based on the Pixelmon mod pack. Their future is now uncertain and it’s thought that many channels will also shut down. However, most creators will be able to adapt and move to another mod pack if/when the pixelmon servers are closed down.

“All good things come to an end eventually and now is out time” states MrMasochism

Isi confirms in their talk with Kotaku that many of their development team will no longer create work in Minecraft. They will be “bowing out” from the Minecraft scene entirely to work on other projects. However, we don’t know anything about what the team could decide to work on next. It’s possible that remaining members will work on another Minecraft mod.

We will bring you updates as we learn more about this situation.
