Epic Games’ popular online shooter Fortnite has released a mobile version of the game on iOS as invite-only barely over a day ago. Lots of players who signed up for the beta event recently received invitations to try Fortnite on their iOS devices, and they have already made it the most popular game on the U.S. App Store, according to a report by VentureBeat.
In addition to Fortnite‘s top spot on the mobile game charts on iOS, it is the second-most download app across all categories in the U.S., according to the same report. The game is doing very well in other countries as well. It’s the no. 3 downloaded app in Canada and no. 5 in Great Britain. These numbers are reflective of recent download activity, so they do not indicate Fortnite is the most downloaded game of all-time, just the current time.
If you want to get in on the Fortnite iOS beta, you can still sign up for it on Epic Games’ website. And don’t worry Android users, the last-man-standing multiplayer game will be releasing on your devices in the coming months. No official release date has been given, but feedback on the current iOS version has been pretty positive. The game seems nearly complete, so we shouldn’t have to wait too long for the full launch.
When Fortnite‘s mobile version is complete, it will support cross-play and cross-progression between PS4, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android. The same is true for Xbox One, PC, Mac, and mobile, though PS4 and Xbox One players still will not be able to play together. But who’s surprised?
Like existing versions of the game, Fortnite‘s mobile version is free to download and play, with optional in-game transactions for cosmetic items.
Play Fortnite now on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac, and sign up for the iOS beta here.
