Following Far Cry 5’s cryptic reveal last week, Ubisoft has released an even more cryptic teaser trailer for the game, and we’re getting some pretty culty vibes from it. Check out the video below.
The teaser shows some tranquil, idyllic landscapes of the fictional Hope County, Montana, with some stomach-churning twists thrown in, of course.
A picturesque mountain scene is quickly interrupted by a pained human scream and crows taking flight. That sunny, serene river looks like a lovely place to take the family–except for the dead body floating by. A shot of a man booking it through a lush grassy field ends with the sound of gunfire. And although that church looks quaint enough, its bell is being rung by a dead man’s skull as the choir sings a lovely rendition of “Amazing Grace.” How sweet the sound, indeed.
The end of the teaser promises an official Far Cry 5 announcement trailer for May 26th.
This setting confirmation follows rumors that the next Far Cry would take place in Montana, and some leaks on Reddit are cluing us in on the game’s ominous plot.
A man who claims to have been part of a Far Cry 5 focus group says the story follows a “religious cult” made up of “Doomsday-preppers bent on furthering their cause.” The poster also says that Far Cry 5’s main antagonist is a “shirtless lunatic leader brandishing an assault rifle in one hand and a Bible in the other.”
The poster cautions readers than he, of course, has no solid proof of these claims, which also could have been changed since his 2016 focus group. These leaks posted days before the teaser trailer, and they sound pretty on par with the vibes we’re getting from Hope County, Montana so far.
Let’s just hope this cult isn’t quite an intense as the Outlast 2 bunch. *shudders*
Far Cry 5 will likely be featured in Ubisoft’s upcoming E3 presentation, and we’ll keep you posted on the latest.
