It’s not too late – you could create the next indie game smash hit.

GameMaker

Attention all aspiring video game developers! It is my pleasure and my duty to make sure that you don’t miss out on what will very likely be the best Humble Bundle of the year. The Humble GameMaker Bundle is live, and you have about nine days left to take advantage of some massive savings.

GameMaker, for those of you who don’t know, is a simple-to-use video game development suite. It’s widely hailed as the most accessible platform for amateur developers, enabling you to quickly prototype ideas and concepts within minutes. If you don’t know how to code at all, you can still make a game using intuitive drag-and-drop commands and assets. If you’re willing to learn a little code, you can go a very long way with this software. Several successful games were created using GameMaker, including Home, Hyper Light Drifter, Undertale, Ink, and more.

Check out all three tiers of the bundle and see for yourself which suits you best. If you want my opinion, the top-tier $15 bundle is a no-brainer. For the same price you’d pay to go see a 3D move at your local theater, you can redeem over $1,800 worth of software. You’ll get GameMaker: Studio Pro along with all of the modules you’ll need to export your games for iOS, Android, Windows, and HTML 5. You’ll also get 12 games that were made using GameMaker, as well as their source code to study.

Make no mistake: if you’ve been dreaming about one day developing a game and waiting for the perfect opportunity or excuse, this is it. There are tons of free resources and tutorials online from which you can learn and draw inspiration. Tom Francis, the developer of Gunpoint, has an excellent playlist of GameMaker tutorials that will walk you through everything you need to know. Start there, and who knows? Maybe one day soon I’ll be writing about your video game. Go get ’em.
