Activision has finally shared some details with us on the next Call of Duty game. Black Ops 4 will be stepping away from the traditional single-player campaign to focus on multiplayer, which will come in the form of at least two modes — the series’ standard Zombies games and a new Battle Royale mode like those in PUBG and Fortnite. Watch the trailer for the new mode, called Blackout, above.

While the trailer does not reveal many details of Blackout, it does make some big promises. Activision describes the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Battle Royale mode as “a survival game with the best, most refined mechanics in the world, our signature controls and gameplay systems, and the kind of fast-paced action that only Call of Duty can deliver.”

Blackout will take place on the series’ biggest map to date and feature weapons, characters, and locations from across the franchise. A big confirmation is the presence of “land, sea, and air vehicles,” which will greatly expand upon the vehicles offered in PUBG and Fortnite. The trailer showed players in helicopters, trucks, and ATV’s; falling through the air; scaling the side of a skyscraper; and facing each other in some explosive combat.

Other gameplay details are scarce, but we do know the PC version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be coming to Battle.net instead of Steam, much like Destiny 2. This is the first time a Call of Duty game will launch on Blizzard’s platform, offering dedicated servers that many are hoping will improve the game’s experience.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is set to launch on October 12, 2018 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
