WWE 2K16 and Spelunky headline a very decent Games with Gold offering.

Games with Gold

A new month is upon us, and that means free games! The Xbox Live Games with Gold lineup for August has been revealed and there are a couple of gems here, depending on your taste. The two Xbox One games on offer are WWE 2K16 and Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate. WWE 2K16 is one of the most well-reviewed wrestling games I’ve seen in a long time. 2K and Yuke’s have been doing great things with the WWE license. If you’ve been craving a great wrestling game, this could be just the thing to get you psyched for WWE 2K17. It’ll be available from August 16 until September 15. Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate is available the whole month of August. It’s a Warriors game, so you you know the deal: tons of heroes to choose from, hundreds of combos, and thousands of enemies to hack through.

We also have two Xbox 360 games available, both of which are playable on Xbox One via backwards compatibility. For the first half of the month you can, and should, download Spelunky. I have never heard a bad thing about Spelunky. It’s a procedurally generated, tough-as-nails adventure game with old-school graphics and fantastic platforming. Beyond Good & Evil HD will be available August 15-31. This is a classic, but I heard that inverted players like myself might be a little frustrated trying to make it through the game without the option of inverting the camera’s y-axis, which is disappointing.

So what do you think? Not bad, huh? No matter what games are on offer someone is always going to complain, but personally I feel like it’s a decent month for gamers on Xbox. If nothing else, Spelunky will keep you occupied for at least the month of August, and probably for a long time thereafter.
