After an explosive start on the weekend, you might assume that Awesome Games Done Quick 2023 would ease up on day 2, but the speedrun marathon continued to deliver. Jolting us from our Monday monotony with fantastic speedruns both new and retro, AGDQ 2023 day 2 kept our eyes glued to the screen. As more donations for the Prevent Cancer Foundation roll in, AGDQ 2023 shows no signs of slowing down.
To watch any of the speedruns mentioned here, check out the official Games Done Quick YouTube channel or Twitch channel. As always, we weren’t able to catch every speedrun of the day, so we recommend checking out other speedruns from the marathon not mentioned on this list. Also, check out our AGDQ 2023 day 1 recap for other great speedruns to watch!
The Best Speedruns of AGDQ 2023 Day 2
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 (Any%) by Nase
Due to some scheduling issues during the early morning, we got an unexpected bonus speedrun of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4, maintaining the energy levels well past midnight. Runner Nase pulled off a stunning feat of skateboarding, navigating memorable levels like San Francisco, College, Alcatraz, and more. With precise grinds, satisfying trick combo lines, and expert route optimization, this speedrun is THPS4 at its finest.
Final time: 38:05
Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy (Any%) by Kainalo
In this underrated third-person sci-fi action game, you usually play as a supernatural soldier who uses his psychic powers to infiltrate and eradicate a dangerous group of terrorists. Playing as Scorpion from Mortal Kombat thanks to a donation incentive, runner Kainalo sped through Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy with overwhelming telekinetic force. The tough wall-clips and nonstop action aren’t the only highlights of the run, as the commentators also include a developer from the Psi-Ops team. In my opinion, any speedrun that showcases Scorpion beating enemies to death with telekinesis is worthy of inclusion on our list of the best speedruns of AGDQ 2023 day 2, the rest is just icing on the cake.
Final time: 30:40
Bomberman 64: The Second Attack (Any%) by EiP
Bursting onto the AGDQ 2023 stream at around 7 AM, this speedrun of the underrated Nintendo 64 sequel pepped up our Monday morning with colorful and cheerful enthusiasm. Donning an enormously adorable Bomberman helmet, speedrunner EiP completed Bomberman 64: The Second Attack with grace and skill, chucking bombs at enemies and performing some interesting tricks to boot. Jovial commentary and supremely comfy vibes earn this run a spot on our list of best speedruns of AGDQ 2023 day 2.
Final time: 29:26
CULTIC (Any% Inbounds) by Kaos_Wulf
As big fans of old-school FPS games, it’s always a treat to come across new retro-inspired shooters. Until we saw this speedrun, we had never heard of CULTIC, but now we’re glad we have. This brooding and fast-paced shooter features lots of blood and some fun kick-based movement boosts, executed perfectly by runner Kaos_Wulf. Coupled with commentary from the developer, the nostalgic joy we got from watching this boomer shooter earns it a spot on our list of the best speedruns of AGDQ 2023 day 2.
Final time: 15:56
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge (Co-Op 2v2 Any% Chill Race) by GeneralAndrews, Dospostmann, Benja, and Paul-Knives
We love all beat ’em ups, but there’s a special place in our hearts for TMNT. In this 2v2 co-op speedrun race, both teams sped through the game as Splinter and Raphael, using their super-powered attacks and route optimization to smack through the foot gang with impressive speed. Through their coordination and cooperation, the runners managed to pull off difficult stun-locks on several bosses, defeating them with ease. Both teams put in a great effort, but one managed to come out on top, earning a co-op world record in the process!
Final time: 56:18
Portal (Airboat%) by Msushi
Portal has been very popular in the speedrunning community for a long time, so it’s no surprise that runners have come up with some wacky categories. In this “Airboat%” run, runner Msushi beats this classic first-person puzzle game almost exclusively using a debug code that spawns a moderately-sized airboat from Half-Life 2. Clipping through walls and flying through the air from calculated airboat explosions, this ridiculous run is a glitch-filled pleasure to watch.
Final time: 22:30
As the clock ticks past midnight and AGDQ 2023 day 2 officially ends, the marathon has raised over $320,000 for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. There are still 5 more days of speedrunning to enjoy and we hope that donation total continues to climb!
