Xbox One X Pre-Orders Now Open, Project Scorpio Edition Announced

Microsoft revealed their powerful 4K console, the Xbox One X, at E3 2017 but didn’t make pre-order available right away. In fact, the company has been pretty hush hush about it all until yesterday at Gamescom, where they announced pre-orders and a special edition of the souped up console.

During the Xbox livestream at Gamescom, Microsoft announced the opening of Xbox One X pre-orders at all major retailers. If you’re looking for some deals, Amazon and GameStop both have trade-in offers to help shave some dollars off of that $500 price point.

Additionally, a limited edition of the console will be released at launch. The Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition, which references the system’s codename before the reveal, features neon green text of “Project Scorpio” on both the console and controller, along with a “dynamic graphic pattern” on the exterior.

The aesthetic is the only alteration on the special edition Xbox, and it will be offered at the same price as the standard version at $500. However, it will be available in limited quantities, so hop on that pre-order if you want to snag a Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition.

Microsoft is claiming their new system is the most powerful console on the market, surpassing the PS4 Pro as the leader in 4K gaming. The Xbox One X is powered by eight custom x86 Jaguar cores clocked at 2.3GHz, a 1172MHz GPU with 40 customized compute units, and 12GB of GDDR5 memory.

Although all Xbox One games will be playable on this powerhouse console, a ton of titles will feature visual enhancements — like 4K and HDR support — only available on the Xbox One X. Some of the enhanced games include Assassin’s Creed Origins, The Witcher 3: Wild HuntPlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, and Forza Motorsport 7.

The Xbox One X hits shelves November 7th for $500.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
