Final Fantasy XV is coming to PC next year

The latest installment in the Final Fantasy series is breaking away from consoles and making the jump to PC in early 2018. Publisher Square Enix made the announcement at partner Nvidia’s press event during Gamescom today, saying the port will come to Windows 10, Steam, and Origin.

Square Enix’s Hajime Tabata boasts that it is “the most beautiful and highest quality version of Final Fantasy XV thanks to it being developed on our new version of the Luminous Engine.”

“The Nvidia team is basically a modern day group of magicians,” said Tabata. “For a game like Final Fantasy XV which relies on showing off a world, it’s such a useful piece of technology they can give us.”

The PC version of Final Fantasy XV will be compatible with native 4K and HDR 10 with several graphic improvements. Nvidia’s involvement means the port will get to use TurfEffects for realistic grass simulation, Hairworks for realistic hair, Flow for liquid/ smoke simulation, and advanced shadow algorithms. Beefy graphics will require a beefy rig to run, although Square Enix has not released required specs for the game just yet.

Along with the base game with its visual boosts, Final Fantasy XV on PC “boasts a wealth of bonus content, including content contained in free updates to the console versions as well as paid downloadable content originally available through the Season Pass.”

Looks like PC gamers will get the highest-end version of the RPG. Will you be buying it for the first time or repurchasing to experience that Nvidia flair? Let us know in the comments.

Final Fantasy XV will be making the trek to PC in early 2018.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
