If you want The Witcher 3 in 4K, buy a PC.

The Witcher 3

We’re less than two months away from the launch of the PS4 Pro, and several games will be getting patches and upgrades to take advantage of the Pro’s extra power. Most of Sony’s best-selling first-party games will be getting upgraded, and plenty of third-party titles will offer PS4 Pro support as well. That may mean more special effects and higher frame rates at 1080p, or it may mean an upgrade to 4K resolution through a special checkerboard rendering technique baked into the PS4 Pro’s upgraded GPU.

Unfortunately, fans of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be disappointed to learn that CD Projekt Red has no plan to upgrade their game to take advantage of the Pro’s beefier GPU. The team said the following in a statement to Eurogamer: “Since we want to fully focus on Cyberpunk 2077 and Gwent [standalone game], and converting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from a full HD game into a 4K one [on console] would be too much of a time and resource-consuming process, we decided not to release an edition of Wild Hunt supporting the new features of PlayStation Pro.”

That’s a bummer, because The Witcher 3 is a gorgeous game. If you’re determined to play Wild Hunt on ultra settings or in 4K, it looks like you’ll need to start saving for a new gaming PC. In the meantime, be glad that CDPR is focused on Cyberpunk 2077. That game looks incredible, and we want it sooner than later.
