The Surge has attracted a little bit of attention over the past few month and developer Deck13 has now announced the system requirements for the game.
It looks as though the game will need to have quite a powerful CPU to run however the developers haven’t revealed what resolution these specifications are for. Deck13 will hopefully clarify this soon and we’ll update you when they do.
For now, it’s probably safe to assume that these requirements are for running the game at 720p and that the recommended requirements are for a 1080p resolution.
It seems a little strange that the developers are putting the Intel Core i7-3820 as the recommended Intel Core processor. As IndianNoob notes, it actually provides a lower frames per-second in most games when it’s compared to the Intel i5-4690K. So it seems like a strange choice by the developers and is potentially a mistake on the Steam store page. Hopefully the developer will clarify this soon.
The mix of high CPU requirements with low GPU requirements should allow this game to run on most computers but there’s no way to know for sure without testing the game. How these requirements affect the game should be revealed later this year as the release date approaches.
The Surge is due for release on May 16th and the game has also been confirmed for release on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. There has been no word on a Nintendo Switch release for the game and it’s possible the game may be ported to other PC operating systems.
