Super Mario Maker 2 Coming to Nintendo Switch This June

Super Mario Maker has been revealed, and will be coming to the Nintendo Switch in June 2019. This is a sequel to the massively popular Super Mario Maker, which launched for the Wii U in 2015. Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS came out a year later, but lacked key sharing features.

Check out the reveal trailer for Super Mario Maker 2 below:

In Super Mario Maker 2, as in previous games, players will be given the templates, tools, and assets they need to create their very own Super Mario stages. If you can dream up an incredible — or incredibly hard — Super Mario level, you will more than likely be able to create it in Super Mario Maker 2. The tools in the first game were incredibly robust, and I’m expecting some impressive iterations and improvements for the sequel.

You’ll notice that you can create stages in multiple styles. Judging from the footage in the trailer, it looks like assets and worlds from Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, New Super Mario Bros., and Super Mario 3D World will be included. Each of these worlds will come with its own unique set power-ups and features. Super Mario Maker 2 also includes the ability to add slopes to your stages (a series first).

We have a definite release window for Super Mario Maker 2, but Nintendo confirmed that multiple features are still in production. There’s still a lot to learn and discover, so stay tuned. If you missed the Direct, you can catch up about the new Legend of Zelda game coming to Switch right here.
