Splatoon 2 New Weapon Improvements Detailed

We’re slowly approaching this summer’s release of the colorful team shooter Splatoon 2 for Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo’s keeping the hype real by revealing some exciting new details about weapons you’ll be able to use in this sequel.

The official Japanese Splatoon 2 Twitter account has posted numerous images and details for lots of the game’s inky weapons. Some are improvements on existing Splatoon weapons, and some are brand new to the series. Check out the details below.

Splat Dualies

This new double-shot weapon featured the Curling Bomb sub-weapon and Ink Jet special in the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire, but Nintendo has since changed up the formula. The Splat Dualies now come with the Burst Bomb sub-weapon and Tenta Missiles special weapon.

The Burst Bomb is an ink-filled balloon that explodes on contact, and Tenta Missiles allows the player to lock on to an enemy Inkling and fire four homing missiles at them.

Octobrush

Returning to Splatoon 2 is the Octobrush, a roller-like weapon that can quickly paint the ground with your team’s ink and splat rival Inklings in the process. Its upgrades are its new sub and special weapons — Robot Bomb and Inkjet.

The Robot Bomb replaces the sub-weapon Squid Beakon. These little guys seek enemies and detonate as soon as one is in their perimeter. The Inkjet special weapon boosts you into the air with an ink-fueled jetpack, allowing you to splat your enemy Inklings from high above.

Blaster

This explosive weapon fires ink rounds that go off like fireworks after making it a certain distance. Blaster shots are slow, but they can splat an opponent in one shot if you’re precise enough.

Instead of the Disruptor sub-weapon and Killer Wail special weapon, the Blaster will come with Poison Mist and Splashdown. Poison Mist leaves — you guessed it — a mist of poison in a small area for a short period of time. Any enemy within the mist loses speed and gradually loses ink. The new special Splashdown allows the Inkling to dive bomb onto the ground with a large ink explosion.

Splattershot

This classic, all-around weapon is keeping its Burst Bomb sub-weapon, but it’s leaving Tenta Missles behind for the new explosive special weapon Splashdown.

Splatterscope

The scoped sniper weapon is back for Splatoon 2 . This time, it’s equipped with the Splat Bomb sub-weapon and the new Sting Ray special that’ll make you feel like a Ghostbuster for a hot second. When activated, it allows you to fire a continuous ink laser that shoots through walls while turning a bit slower than normal.

Splat Charger

Keeping the dynamic from the first game, the Splat Charger will feature the same sub and special weapons — Splat Bomb and Sting Ray — as the Splatterscope. Instead of a scope for easier targeting and longer range, the Splat Charger features increased mobility for changing positions faster in the heat of battle.

Splat Roller

This paint roller weapon is also returning with its same wide range, fast movements, and low defense. Its leaving behind the Suction Bomb sub and Killer Wail special in favor of the Curling Bomb and Splashdown weapons.

Slosher

The redesigned bucket of ink still chucks a large amount of ink into the arena at once, but both its sub and special have been replaced. Instead of Burst Bomb, its sub-weapon will be the Sprinkler, which has been improved to release ink more quickly. The Slosher’s special weapon for Splatoon 2 will be Sting Ray.

What do you think of the Splatoon 2 weapon improvements? Are you excited to try out some of your favorites with their new subs and specials? Let us know in the comments!

Splatoon 2 is due out July 21st for Nintendo Switch.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
