In addition to the classic blue hedgehog, players will be able to create their own custom character in Sega’s upcoming Sonic Forces. This feature is a first for the series.
Sega announced today that players will have access to a Hero Character creation mode in Sonic Forces, which is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The reveal trailer, below, shows off changing the character’s body, color, gloves, footwear, and headgear.
According to IGN, players will be able to choose from seven different custom character species, each with its own unique ability. The species and abilities are listed below.
This custom character will be a key element to the Sonic Forces story and will even be featured in the game’s cut scenes throughout the main story.
In addition to the customization, the above trailer also shows off some new wieldable gadgets, such as a flamethrower and a grappling hook. These items can be used as both weapons and means for maneuvering through levels.
The video also highlights the other two playable characters of Sonic Forces: Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic. Classic Sonic appears in the game’s classic, 2D side-scrolling areas, while Modern Sonic speeds through the 3D levels.
Sonic Forces is set to launch this holiday season. Also this year, we’ll see the release of another Sonic game: Sonic Mania, a classic 2D side-scrolling adventure featuring Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails. Mania is also slated for a Holiday 2017 release.
