RollerCoaster Tycoon Switch Features Revealed

RollerCoaster Tycoon, the classic theme park building game, is coming to Nintendo Switch with an investment-based crowdfunding campaign by Atari Game Partners, a subsidiary of Atari. After the StartEngine campaign passed its minimum funding goal, the company shared some details of RollerCoaster Tycoon Switch‘s features.

In a statement to investors, Atari Game Partners revealed some gameplay features and technical details of the Switch version of RollerCoaster Tycoon. It’s unclear if the final game will be titled RollerCoaster Tycoon Switch or something different, but it’s definitely a new game made specifically for Nintendo’s hybrid console.

RollerCoaster Tycoon Switch will feature three main game modes: campaign, sandbox, and scenario. Campaign Mode will be familiar to Tycoon veterans. It tasks players with building a theme park from the ground up by researching new rides and attractions. Sandbox Mode will offer unlimited time and resources to build as wildly as your heart desires, while Scenario Mode will feature 16 time-sensitive scenarios at three different difficulty levels.

There will be seven different types of customizable rollercoasters available in the game, in addition to over 100 other rides, restaurants, and shops you can place and edit with a 50-color palette. As always, you will be able to terraform your park by editing the land, laying down paths, and placing foliage to create the ideal atmosphere for your theme parks guests.

As for technical features, RollerCoaster Tycoon Switch will be compatible with Joy-Cons and touchscreen controls, though no details were shared on motion controls. Of course, the game will be playable seamlessly between docked and portable modes and will run at 1080p/30fps and 720p/30fps, respectively. Last but not least, you will be able to make multiple save files for your array of crazy theme park creations.

RollerCoaster Tycoon Switch has no release date but is expected sometime in 2018.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
