Resident Evil 7 receives permanent price cut and temporary sale

Resident Evil 7 marked a return to form for the horror franchise. While RE 5 and 6 embraced action, RE 7 flipped the perspective to first-person, and returned to the scary roots of the first four titles.

If you’ve yet to try it, a permanent price cut and additional sale reduction may be the last encouragement you need to scare yourself half to death.

The base price has been reduced by 50% in North America and nearly 40$ in the UK, sitting at $29.99/£24.99. The current Steam sale price knocks off an additional 20%. There’s never been a cheaper time to hop on.

Fear and isolation seep through the walls of an abandoned southern farmhouse. “7” marks a new beginning for survival horror with the “Isolated View” of the visceral new first-person perspective.

RE VII tasks you with exploring a house full of terrifying baddies. The first-person perspective adds claustrophobic elements, especially when playing hide and seek with powerful murderers. Since PT was cancelled, it was only a matter of time for another AAA studio to pick up the mantle of first-person horror in a spooky house. I’m not saying Capcom was influenced by PT but I’m glad a solid title was released in the wake of PT’s unfortunate cancellation.

Resident Evil made its mark in 1996 for bringing true horror to home consoles. The first two sequels expanded on the formula. Resident Evil 4 upped the ante with an over the shoulder perspective that set the tone of action games for years to come. Planting your character’s feet while lining up headshots on incoming zombies worked extremely well and many regard it as one of the greatest games ever made.

There is a fantastic remake of the first RE and a remaster of RE4 available on most major platforms if you haven’t yet experienced the roots of the influential franchise.
