Nintendo Reveals 3 New 3DS Games at E3

Even though Nintendo’s main E3 presentation came and went with only mentions of Switch titles, a few 3DS games have been revealed in the company’s additional Treehouse Live stream. You can read our full wrap up of the big N’s main E3 event here, and read on for details on those newly revealed 3DS games!

Metroid: Samus Returns

If one game reveal wasn’t enough for some Metroid fans, how about two? Nintendo randomly announced Metroid: Samus Returns on Twitter as a re-imagining of Metroid II: Return of Samus.

In the Treehouse Live stream, we learned that MercurySteam, the team behind Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, is the developer of the game. They’ve designed a new aiming system so that Samus can aim in 360 degrees, unlike the original game which only allowed you to straight ahead.

The above trailer showcases that free-range shooting and lots of sidescrolling alien action.

The other Metroid title revealed at E3 is Metroid Prime 4, which only has a dramatic logo reveal video so far. This game is currently only in development for Nintendo Switch.

Metroid: Samus Returns launches for 3DS September 15th.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga Remake + Bowser’s Minions

Next up is a remake of the 2003 Game Boy Advance game Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga. The “Bowser’s Minions” part comes from a new game mode called Minion Quest.

Nintendo says, “Control Mario and Luigi simultaneously, making use of their unique Bros. Moves to solve puzzles and emerge victorious in action-packed battles. Recruit characters to grow your own Minion army as you fight to locate your missing leader!”

The above trailer shows off the game’s revamped graphics but with the original’s pixelated style. Newly announced Koopa and Goomba amiibos will have special functionality, though Nintendo hasn’t told us the details of that functionality yet.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga Remake + Bowser’s Minions is out October 6th.

Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido

Ending the run of remakes, Nintendo revealed the brand new Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido, a game all about eating sushi to clear your plates to fire across the stage at your opponent.

The game is being developed by indieszero, the same studio behind NES Remix and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy. In this fast-paced puzzle-action game, you will try to draw a line with the same types of sushi that appear on the conveyer belt between you and your enemy. Looks like there will be a roster of zany characters to face, lots of sushi to eat, and lots of levels to clear.

The above trailer shows some fun sushi action and awesome music. Check it out.

Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido is coming in 2018.

Even though the Switch is the hot new console on the market, Nintendo is showing its dedication to 3DS support with new titles spanning into the next year. Handheld devotees, rejoice!

Nintendo’s E3 streams are technically over, but boy do they love to surprise us. Check back with A 90’s Kid for the latest surprise reveals and all other gaming news.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
