Nintendo is slowly making its way into the mobile gaming market with apps like Miitomo and Super Mario Run. A mobile game based on the popular Nintendo IP Animal Crossing was originally slated for a March 2017 release, but it obviously missed the mark.
The company’s President Tatsumi Kimishima was asked about the reason for the lack of information on the Animal Crossing app in a recent financial briefing Q&A.
Kimishima responded, “We will release the Animal Crossing application for smart devices during this fiscal year. We will announce the specific release date before we commence distribution.”
“This fiscal year” means any time from now until the end of March 2018. So we might see that Animal Crossing app game in 2017, but Nintendo isn’t promising anything yet. Regardless, it’s nice to know the company hasn’t forgotten about this highly anticipated game.
Other than vague release dates that keep getting pushed back, Nintendo has been very hush-hush on the details for the Animal Crossing app. Will it be a mini town you’re the mayor of like in New Leaf? Will it be design-based like the spinoff game Happy Home Designer? Or will it be more of a digital board game like Amiibo Festival? Maybe Nintendo has something completely unique up their sleeve.
Some rumors around the app’s delay have said the Animal Crossing mobile game just hasn’t been fun enough, so the development team is working to make it as entertaining as possible for all players. They’re likely trying to avoid a flop like the Wii U spinoff title Amiibo Festival, which was poorly received.
Nintendo has given no other statements regarding the Animal Crossing app at this time, but we’ll keep you updated with the latest news on the game.

Really excited for the release of this. But I don't want it to be bogged down with RNG crap like miitomo and fire emblem. But that's what we will likely see. Would rather pay $5-10 for a decent fun app than a free money grabber
Agreed. I'd pay ten bucks for a mobile version that was a vertical slice of animal crossing. Seems like the perpetual management would be perfect to have in my pocket.
