The first of two DLC’s coming to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild launches this summer, and Nintendo has recently detailed the features of the downloadable content in a press release.
The below list covers all the features of this DLC, called The Master Trials. Read on for more details.
The DLC is headlined by the Trial of the Sword, which consists 45 rooms of enemies to defeat. You start with no armor or weapons, but if you can best this challenge, your Master Sword will stay in its glowing, charged state with 60 attack forever and always.
Hard Mode is what it sounds like: a harder difficulty setting, but it adds some unexpected details as well. In Hard Mode, enemies will increase in rank, so a normal red bokoblin would turn into a blue one. Enemies will also slowly recover health during battles, and they’ll be more likely to spot you when you’re sneaking up on them.
Additionally, some new enemies will appear in the world with Hard Mode enabled, as well as floating planks where you can battle enemies and collect treasure.
Possibly the most exciting feature (for me anyways) is Hero’s Path Mode, which shows you all the footsteps you’ve taken for the past 200 hours of gameplay. There’s even a slider to move through your steps on a timeline. This feature will be a huge help with figuring out what areas of the map you haven’t explored and where those pesky hidden Shrines might be.
After downloading the DLC, a treasure chest with a Travel Medallion inside it will appear somewhere in Hyrule. With this medallion, you can set a travel point on the map, even if you aren’t at a Shrine or tower. Only one travel point can be set at a time, but you can fast travel there as many times as you want.
Once you find and equip the new Korok Mask, you’ll be able to find korok seeds much easier since the mask shakes when a korok is hidden nearby. Maximum inventory, here we come!
In addition to the Travel Medallion and Korok Mask, you will receive eight more pieces of Zelda-themed equipment, if you can find them. These items include Majora’s Mask, Midna’s Helmet, Phantom Armor Set, and Tingle’s Outfit Set. Stylin’.
Nintendo stated they will reveal more information about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – The Master Trials DLC in the future, but we’re happy with the details we’ve got for now.
To gain access to these DLC’s you’ll need to purchase the Breath of the Wild Expansion Pass for $19.99 for the Nintendo eShop. You will then be able to download the game’s DLC’s as soon as they’re live.
