New Skyrim Mod Imitates Practical Zelda: Breath of the Wild Feature

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has so many wonderful, innovative features that it’s hard to list them all. From surviving in extreme climates, to surfing on your shield, from dying your clothes with forageable items, to bonding with wild horses, the Breath of the Wild team really knocked it out of the park. Features in this game will likely influence future titles for years to come. They’re starting down that path with mods.

Shops and vendors in Breath of the Wild are unique from other video game merchants. While most in-game stores require you to talk with a shopkeeper to look at a list of their wares, Breath of the Wild lets you simply walk up to displayed items and purchase them.

Every item available to purchase is on display, so if you don’t see it sitting out, you can’t get it there. Such a simple alteration, but it feels so right.

A new Skyrim mod takes this Zelda feature and turns it up a few notches, via PC Gamer. The mod is called Immersive Merchants, and it allows you to buy items on display in stores. Walking up to something sitting on a shelf brings up a UI displaying the item’s features and price, along with a “Buy” button.

What’s more, this mod works on items that aren’t actually wares of the shop, as it marks the whole building as a store. However, the developer says the mod won’t work on outdoor vendors. You can still steal items while sneaking.

To activate the Immersive Merchants mod, you have to go to Riverwood Trader and read the book on the counter. After that, you’re free to sensibly purchase items from your favorite Skyrim shops.

What are your favorite Skyrim mods? Do you prefer practical features like this one or more extreme ones like playing as your favorite anime character? Let us know in the comments.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
