Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Sells 485,000 Units – PS5 Dominates Sales

Arc System Works’ Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls reportedly sold 485,000 copies across PS5 and PC in its first week, with PS5 accounting for 74 percent of those sales. These figures come from Alinea Analytics estimates reported by GamingBolt, so they should be treated as a market estimate rather than an official sales announcement.

Alinea Analytics’ Rhys Elliott also estimates that the Marvel fighter generated $33 million in revenue across the two platforms during that opening week. Steam represented the remaining 26 percent of sales, a split that puts PlayStation at the center of the game’s early commercial story.

The reported result suggests that the Marvel name still has significant pull on PS5, particularly among players already invested in PlayStation’s superhero catalogue. Elliott cited crossover with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, while Marvel Rivals also appeared among the related audience interests.

For a quick look at the project’s original pitch, Marvel Entertainment’s first-party remains the clearest introduction to its comic-book collision of heroes and fighting-game spectacle.

PS5 Dominates the Opening Week, While PC Faces Challenges

The platform split matters because PC was not merely a smaller slice of the audience; it arrived under a cloud of player frustration. GamingBolt reports that the Steam version retained a “Mixed” user-review rating, with 48 percent of user reviews recommending it at the time of its report, even after a patch.

The report specifically points to high CPU utilization and rollback issues. In a fighting game, rollback networking is not background plumbing—it directly affects whether online matches feel crisp, readable, and fair when two players are trading split-second decisions. This makes early technical trouble especially costly for a competitive release trying to build a long-term community on PC.

The reported 74/26 PS5-to-Steam divide also fits the wider reality of the genre: console remains a natural home for fighting games, where local sessions, established controller habits, and a concentrated player base can matter as much as the game’s character roster. Still, the size of the gap makes the PC version’s recovery more than a routine post-launch clean-up job.

Future Prospects with New Characters

GamingBolt states that the developer plans continued support and new characters, beginning with Phoenix Cyclops in the fall. This gives Marvel Tōkon a clear opportunity to bring lapsed players back, but new content will land differently depending on whether the online experience has earned back trust by then.

There is one encouraging read on the reported numbers: nearly half a million copies in the first week is a real audience, not a vanishingly small launch. The problem is that the Marvel license and console audience appear to have done most of the heavy lifting so far. If Arc System Works can improve the PC experience while giving that audience characters worth returning for, the opening-week estimate could become a foundation instead of a ceiling.

Would you jump in on PS5 now, or are you waiting to see whether the PC version gets its online fights into better shape?
