Bungie Officially Reveals Rise of Iron

Most of this information we knew already, but now Bungie has officially revealed its next big expansion for Destiny, called Rise of Iron. A special live-stream was held to introduce fans to the expansion and, I have to say, it was pretty much exactly what we thought it would be. I don’t want to belittle anyone at Bungie or make light of all of the hard work they’ve put into the game, but I really don’t think this expansion is going to bring back the long-time Destiny fans who are so thirsty for truly new experiences. Be that as it may, this is what we can look forward to in September.

Rise of Iron will feature a new campaign with new story missions. The Fallen have torn down the wall in Old Russia and loosed a great evil that lay dormant in The Plaguelands. The guardians will travel to Felwinter Peak with Lord Saladin, the last remaining Lord of Iron, to put a stop to that evil and become Lords of Iron themselves in the process. In addition to the campaign players can also expect a new raid, a new strike, new gear, an increased light cap, and some additional crucible content. Pretty much the same kinds of stuff we got with The Taken King.

Bungie has also revived an old year-one rocket launcher: a fan-favorite known as Gjallarhorn. They made a really big deal out of this rocket launcher, which worries me because that makes me think they really don’t have too much else to offer, but enough of my negativity. Anyone will be able to unlock Gjallarhorn by completing a special side quest, but only those who pre-order Rise of Iron will be able to acquire Iron Gjallarhorn, a black and silver variant of the typically white and gold weapon. So that’s that! What did you guys think of the reveal? Is this enough to pull you back into Destiny, or will you save your money and wait for a sequel down the road? Let us know in the comments.
