[Watch] World’s first Nintendo Switch Unboxing and UI Videos

Someone’s getting fired for this.

That’s right, some lucky soul got his Nintendo Switch a little early. Yesterday, NeoGAF user hiphoptherobot–let’s just call him Robot from now on–posted pictures of what appeared to be a Switch console, saying it was shipped to his home. No one was sure what to make of it at first, as little information was provided. A little later, Robot posted the above video showing off the Switch OS and UI right before our very eyes. It’s the real deal.

The original video was posted here, but it won’t embed for easy watching.

After the usual language, region, and internet settings stuff, Robot detaches the Joy-Con controllers and goes through some tips on Switch gameplay.

Then the prompt appears to set an icon and nickname. (Robot chose Celeste from Animal Crossing for his icon. I like Robot.) According to the video, the Switch allows for up to eight different users to create icons and nicknames on one console.

The Home menu is something we’ve seen before, but it’s still awesome to see it in action. Basically, there’s an icon list of the console’s games, a News tab, an Album for screenshots and (eventually) videos, the eShop, and various settings.

The System Settings section has options for controlling standard things like Brightness, Parental Controls, TV preferences, and Data Management. FYI, out of the box, the Switch has 25.9 GB of storage space.

Other interesting settings include a Mii creator and Theme choices, which are limited to Basic White and Basic Black at first.

Robot was hesitant to share exactly where his Switch came from, because he didn’t want to get the company in trouble. The NeoGAF community is speculating it came from Newegg, which makes sense. It’s very doubtful a large retailer like Amazon would ship out a product early like this, and I think all other pre-orders were in-store pickup only.

Also yesterday, Robot filmed an unboxing video for FloKO. The above video shows off the colorful packaging and every little bit that’s inside it, including the actual Switch, the dock, the controllers, the Joy-Con grip, the Joy-Con wristbands, cords, and instructions.

Aren’t you kicking yourself for not pre-ordering from a smaller retailer now? Same here.

The Nintendo Switch officially launches March 3rd. May the force be with you as you brave the midnight releases.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
