Valkyria Chronicles 4 Announced for Switch, PS4, and Xbox One

Sega’s Valkyria series is receiving a new installment, the company announced recently. The most recent entry in the franchise was Valkyria Revolution, which was not very well received on PS4 and Xbox One. However, the series still has a great group of fans who are ready for the next big thing, which Sega is hoping will be Valkyria Chronicles 4.

Just recently, Sega confirmed that it will take the series back to its roots with Valkyria Chronicles 4 on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, arriving in spring 2018. The above video shows the team hard at work on the game, designing characters and working on the story. The actual game trailer, which starts around the 2:08 mark, displays the hand drawn art style and sets up the story, which takes place in the second European War around March 1935 EC.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 takes place in the same timeframe as the original Valkyria Chronicles, but focuses on a whole new cast of main characters,” Sega said in a press release. “Players will take command of the eager, young Commander Claude Wallace, engineer/heavy weapons extraordinaire Riley Miller, hotheaded Darcsen Raz, ice-cold ace sniper Kai Schulen, and more. Together, they will experience the painful realities of war—but will the bonds of Squad E’s friendships survive the frozen battlefield?”

As for specific release dates, Sega confirmed the game will launch on PS4 in Japan in March of next year and Nintendo Switch that summer. No release date for the Xbox One version was given for Japan, and the U.S. release for all versions was only confirmed for some time in 2018.

Though Sega did not reveal much in the way of gameplay, we will likely see more news and footage from Valkyria Chronicles 4 in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to A9K for the latest updates.

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
