Ubisoft Confirms New Beyond Good & Evil in the Works

Play the original for free on PC later this month!

Michel Ancel has been teasing some concept art lately. He wasn’t very subtle, either; he posted it all over social media. The images seemed to hint at a new Beyond Good & Evil game, but Ubisoft remained stoic and silent. While Ancel’s concept art made headlines, fans were left to speculate in darkness. Yesterday, Ubisoft lifted the veil with a Facebook post.

“If you’ve been waiting for news about BG&E… well, here you go! We are delighted to confirm that Michel Ancel is currently working with the Ubisoft Montpellier Studio on a new Beyond Good & Evil game.”

Is that it?

Yes, that’s it. We literally know nothing about this game. Judging by Ancel’s first image which appears to show a young Pey’j sitting atop who we assume to be Jade’s father, I think it’s safe to assume that we’re looking at a prequel here. Of course, the image could be for some kind of flashback scene, or strictly for lore, so take all of the recent speculation with a grain of salt.

You might want to get comfortable, too. The next Beyond Good & Evil won’t be here for a long time. All we have is concept art for now, and Ancel is busy working on Wild, which itself is still a ways off. I’m guessing it will be the end of 2017 before we get any kind of release date or gameplay footage, but I’m certainly hoping to be surprised at next year’s E3.

Oh, but we do get a free game!

If you play games on a PC, it’s worth noting that Ubisoft is giving away the original Beyond Good & Evil as part of its “Ubi 30” anniversary celebration. Look for it on Uplay starting on October 12. This is replacing The Crew, which was September’s offering. If you plan on picking up The Crew for some free racing action, be sure to do that soon.
