Eurogamer reports that Twitch suffered a major outage affecting its website, chat and video services soon after Grand Theft Auto 6’s extended-look gameplay presentation premiered on Netflix.
According to the publication, Twitch Status listed multiple major outages across the platform. Twitch said it was investigating reports of impacted services, including possible chat failures, login trouble and impaired search.
The disruption came soon after a major GTA 6 broadcast, but no causal link has been established. Eurogamer reported that Twitch had not confirmed whether excessive demand surrounding the presentation caused the outage. The publication contacted a Twitch PR representative about that possibility but had not received a response at the time of publication.
The GTA 6 presentation was available for creators to co-stream, with Kai Cenat and IShowSpeed among those reacting live when it appeared on Netflix, Eurogamer reported. At the time of writing, the publication counted around 180,000 viewers watching GTA 6 streams on Twitch, while another 80,000 were watching GTA 5.
Eurogamer reported that Twitch appeared to have mostly recovered by then, although its status page continued to show major-outage warnings. The precise cause and full scope of the disruption remain unconfirmed.
