Total War: Warhammer 2 to feature combined campaign with first game

A stand-alone DLC titled Total War: Warhammer 2 will be released on PC by the end of this year (2017). If you already own the first Total War: Warhammer, you’ll have access to a “huge combined campaign map” featuring areas from both entries in the franchise.

The first game was released less than a year ago, in May of 2016. A third entry is also planned.

The ‘sequel’ will introduce four new races. The High Elves, Dark Elves, and Lizardmen have all been officially announced, while the Skaven were all but confirmed by the appearance of a red-eyed rat at the end of the trailer.

The first entry also started with just four playable factions: The Dwarfs, Empire (humans), Greenskins (orcs/goblins), and Vampire Counts (team Edward). The Wood Elves and Beastmen were made available for $20 each, while the Bretonnians are currently offered free of charge.

The focus of TW:W2 is the “ailing Great Vortex that has swirled for millennia above the elven homeland of Ulthuan. Performing a series of arcane rituals, each race must save or disrupt the Vortex according to their motivations – a struggle culminating in a cataclysmic endgame. Territorial conquest is no longer enough… this is a race for control that will define the fate of the world!”

The sequel promises not one but two campaigns (for owners of the first game). The second campaign will feature the aforementioned combined map of both games but won’t be available until a short time after launch.

Are four races and 2 campaigns on the same engine enough to warrant a second full-priced purchase for Total War: Warhammer 2? Chime in below.

okay

Mathew is a huge fan of Space, Strategy, and Shadowrun (Genesis version is #1). When it comes to games and films, he’d much rather experience a 10/10 classic from yesteryear than a 6/10 modern blandfest. He does feel we’re living in a gaming golden age with the power of indie developers at an all-time high, but wishes AAA publishers would take more risks. Mat believes it’s only a matter of time before the pendulum swings the other way and new ideas take their rightful place above reboots.

  • Its an expansion wrapped up by the money grabbing marketing execs at Sega as full priced game. Sorry based on what I know so far its not worth it, I hope I am wrong as the game desperately needs to stop its short max 9 min battles, units get fatigued way too much, I want to play battles that go on for truly like 60 mins and secondly customization, currently there is none, change the colours of units, stats etc. which makes it feel unique to you, your army your hero etc. I also don't like how magic is currently. So IF they improve on the game dynamics and features then maybe yes but its most likely a no.
