Top 20 PSN games for August 2017 (PS4, PSVR, PS3, Vita, DLC, Classics)

The Top 20 PSN sellers are here, and there’s a healthy variety to the list. Sports, multiplayer, nostalgia, COD, the biggest indie hit of 2015, and a few surprises make up this month’s list. Enjoy the numbers.

1. Madden NFL 18 predictably takes the top as the only NFL game in town hits it’s anticipated annual release.

2. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is on the other end of the spectrum from the maker’s of Heavenly Sword and Devil May Cry. It explores mental illness with horror action/advenure. Ninja Theory calls it their independent AAA game.

3. Sonic Mania rode a combination of nostalgia, years of underwhelming Sonic games, and the good will of a fan-turned-developer to fantastic success. I played it on our channel and would love to see another with 100% original content.

4. Rainbow Six Siege has been a slow burn that is starting to heat up once again. Ubisoft keeps adding characters with an overall plan of 100! If you love a team-based, thinking-person’s shooter with incredible environment destruction, pick this one up.

5. UNCHARTED: The Lost Legacy proved Naughty Dog doesn’t need Nathan Drake to tell a successful Uncharted story. Nadine and Chloe have a wonderful dynamic in this great slice of Uncharted pie.

6. GTA V will never stop making money.

7. Friday the 13th: The Game banks on nostalgia and multiplayer hijinx but received dreadful scores (4/10 polygon) due to game-breaking bugs at launch. Could be worth another look after patches but that didn’t stop the sales.

8. Undertale – the 2015 hit – finally makes its way to PSN and thrives. We recently streamed the true pacifist and neutral endings if you’d like to take a look.

9. Minecraft will also never stop making money.

The bottom 11 rounds out with sports (UFC, Rocket League, Need for Speed), multiplayer (For Honor, Overcooked, Absolver), COD remaster, and the new Life is Strange.

Mathew Falvai

Mathew is a huge fan of Space, Strategy, and Shadowrun (Genesis version is #1). When it comes to games and films, he’d much rather experience a 10/10 classic from yesteryear than a 6/10 modern blandfest. He does feel we’re living in a gaming golden age with the power of indie developers at an all-time high, but wishes AAA publishers would take more risks. Mat believes it’s only a matter of time before the pendulum swings the other way and new ideas take their rightful place above reboots.
