Telltale Says Nintendo Switch is “Perfect” for Their Games

Telltale Games is bringing Minecraft: Story Mode Season 1 to Nintendo Switch soon, and more releases could follow. Telltale head of communications Job Stauffer says the hybrid console could be the “perfect” home for the company’s episodic games.

Speaking to GameSpot, Stauffer said, “We haven’t quite announced [Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2 for Switch] but we certainly hope to continue things on that platform; we’re big fans.”

He went on to tease releases for even more Telltale series down the road. “It wouldn’t be unheard if more of our series also made it to Switch; we love the platform. It’s kind of perfect for what we do. All of our games are the same on mobile as they are on consoles. And for a mobile console [like the Switch] it’s pretty awesome.”

Minecraft: Story Mode Season 1 does not have a Switch release date yet, though it’s already out on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and mobile devices now. The same platforms are getting Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2 on July 11th, with no official reveal for Nintendo Switch just yet.

The prospect of more Telltale releases seems realistic. Telltale’s games are mostly story-based with beautiful but still low-demand graphics — and like Stauffer said, we already know they run well on mobile devices. Fans of the company’s franchises already take games on-the-go on their smartphones, but playing on the Switch tablet would be a welcome upgrade.

Popular Telltale series include some big names, such as The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Batman. If the rest of the company shares Stauffer’s vision, we could see releases of some of these titles on the Switch somewhere down the road.

Which Telltale series would you most like to see come to the Switch? Let us know in the comments!

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
