Nintendo

The Switch Pro Controller is here, annnnnnnnd it’s sold out

There it is. You might not see one IRL (at least one you can buy) for a little while.

Another Nintendo product has sold out quickly as the Switch Pro Controller joins the Classic NES as hard-to-find Nintendo items. Is it due to demand or supply? Who knows, It’s Nintendo!

Their previous Pro controllers and Gamecube adapters sold extremely well on the Wii/WiiU, so there should be no surprise that Nintendo fans are still clamoring for traditional controls, no matter how many ice cubes they could feel in a Joy-Con.

Nintendo’s third pro controller shows off its modern conventions with comfy looking grips. They feature tiny holes, like a man of leisure’s golfing glove. Speaking of luxury, the controller also includes the finest Rumble of the HD variety, the rarest Amiibo reader, and the now common share button. Of course it’ll be screenshots only until Nintendo works out which end of the internet is up. My guess is their hyper active copyright infringement software threatened to blow up the world if anyone records more than 30 seconds of 1-2-Switch. It might be awhile.

If you could buy a Pro Controller, it would cost you $69.99 USD. There are still Joy-Con to purchase at $49.99 for a single, and a whopping $79.99 for the pair. If you want to charge your Joy-Con while playing in docked mode, you’ll also need to grab a charging grip at $29.99. I can’t decide whether it’s more ridiculous that the Switch doesn’t include one of these, or 1-2-Switch ($49.99).

The Pro Controller is sold out and the Joy-Con have not. I assume Nintendo underestimated the demand for a proper controller while overestimating how popular an expensive extra set of evolved Wiimotes would be.

Bowser doesn’t have a problem with the size of the Joy-Con

If you’re bummed about not getting a Pro Controller pre-order, check out our video with American Matt as he gushes about how the Joy-Con feels just fine.

Mathew is a huge fan of Space, Strategy, and Shadowrun (Genesis version is #1). When it comes to games and films, he’d much rather experience a 10/10 classic from yesteryear than a 6/10 modern blandfest. He does feel we’re living in a gaming golden age with the power of indie developers at an all-time high, but wishes AAA publishers would take more risks. Mat believes it’s only a matter of time before the pendulum swings the other way and new ideas take their rightful place above reboots.
