Survival Game The Flame in the Flood Coming to PS4 This Month

Get the Complete Edition on PS4 January 17th.

Soon you can use your PlayStation 4 to forage, craft, and evade your way down a river in the beautiful survival game The Flame in the Flood. It’s releasing on PS4 January 17th, publisher Curve Digital announced today.

The Flame in the Flood has been out on Xbox One and Steam since February of last year and is coming to PS4 in the form of the game’s Complete Edition. This edition includes “various gameplay enhancements, a Director’s Commentary mode, Avatars, and a Dynamic Theme.”

Curve Digital describes the game as “a wilderness survival game in which a girl and her dog travel on foot and by raft down a procedurally-generated river. Scrounge for resources, craft tools, remedy afflictions, evade the vicious wildlife and, most importantly, stay healthy in a dangerous wilderness.”

Steam players have given The Flame in the Flood favorable reviews with an overall 9/10. One reviewer paints the game as “an incredibly polished survival game that can nicely be compared to a linear Don’t Starve.”

Other reviewers note that the game has plenty of challenge without being too frustrating, especially when navigating the currents of the river. There is both a campaign mode with an ending and an endless mode, which should appeal to a range of players.

While the PS4 version was handled by Curve Digital, the original Kickstarter-funded Flame in the Flood was developed by Boston-based indie studio The Molasses Flood. The development team was comprised of the art director of BioShock and veterans of the BioShock, Halo, Guitar Hero, and Rock Band series.

The game also features original music written by Hot Water Music singer Chuck Ragan.

No price has been announced for the Complete Edition, but we can assume it will at least be higher than the Xbox One version’s $20.

The Flame in the Flood: Complete Edition hits shelves January 17th. Will you be picking up a copy?

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
