Steam is getting new currencies including the Australian Dollar

When Australians use Steam, the prices are displayed in American dollars. So the user has to check the conversion rate themselves. However, it looks like Steam will be fixing this soon and Australia, in addition to other a short list of other countries, will be getting an updated store page. Valve is updating their price matrix to give a single price for each of these countries.

Brightrock Games, the developer of War of the Overworld, has posted a new blog post on Steam. While this in itself isn’t anything to rave about, the contents of the blog are very interesting. It confirms that an update to their price matrix is coming as eleven new currencies will be supported by Steam.

The blog post from the developer is about the changes they’ll be making to their regional prices based on this upcoming change. Brightrock Games has submitted changes to allow these currencies and they “expect them to be approved in the coming days and weeks”. “These changes have been approved by Valve now and should be live”

“These changes have been approved by Valve now and should be live” states the blog post. However, it’s noted that Valve has not officially launched them yet. So these new prices may not be visible on Steam.

Here are the upcoming currencies to be added to Steam:

  • Vietnamese Dong
  • Ukrainian Hryvnia
  • Australian Dollar
  • Polish Zloty
  • Argentine Peso
  • Israeli New Shekel
  • Kazakhstani Tenge
  • Kuwaiti Dinar
  • Qatari Rial
  • Costa Rican Colon
  • Uruguayan Peso

The studio adds that there’s no timescale for the launch of the addition of these currencies. Brightrock Games suggests that Valve may be waiting for more developers to submit price changes for these regions. They expect the change to arrive this year, “probably in the coming weeks”.

In addition to this, the developer has also submitted price changes for a number of regions. This is to reflect their new price matrix by reducing the price for the game on Steam. These changes are now live. Here are the currencies affected by this change:

  • Indonesian Rupiah
  • Malaysian Ringgit
  • Philippine Peso
  • Singapore Dollar
  • Thai Baht
  • Korean Won
  • Indian Rupee
  • Chilean Peso
  • Peruvian Nuevo Sol
  • Colombian Peso
  • South African Rand
  • Hong Kong Dollar
  • Taiwanese Dollar
  • Saudi Arabian Riyal
  • Emirati Dirham
  • CIS Territories USD Regional Price
