‘Stardew Valley’ Coming to PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch

Get your axe and sword ready for some indie adventuring.

In a post on the Stardew Valley blog, developer Eric Barone–better known by his username ConcernedApe–announced the game will be coming to home consoles soon. The indie farming-simulation roleplaying game is releasing for PS4 on December 13th, 2016, and hitting Xbox One the next day on December 14th. Pre-orders for the Xbox One (globally) and PS4 (Europe only) begin today November 30th.

Barone also mentioned the scrapped Wii U project in the blog post. Though he was working to bring Stardew Valley to the Wii U, he is now shifting development efforts to making a version for the upcoming Nintendo Switch. Barone noted he is excited for the Switch and thinks the hybrid console will offer cool opportunities for the game. No release date was given for the Switch version.

Stardew Valley was originally released only for PC in February of 2016 and was made available for Mac and Linux from the Steam store in July. It recently received a pretty big update with added farm layouts, buildings, relationship options, quests, and more!

If you haven’t tried Stardew Valley yet, you really have to. I know hearing “farming-simulation” makes you think of the dreaded FarmVille, but I promise it’s so different and so much better. You run a huge farm with your choice of crops, animals, buildings, paths, and decorations. Collect resources all around the map, including the mines, where you delve deep to discover new treasures and monsters. Level up your skills and unlock new crafting recipes to enrich your farm. Interact with townspeople and can even marry some of them, male and female both. Play day-by-day through the four seasons, with different crops and quests available for each one. Stardew Valley has so much to offer to every player, and it is so aesthetically pleasing.

As GiantBomb puts it, “Far more than just a farming game, this one-man labor of love is filled with seemingly endless content and heart.” It even has “Overwhelming Positive” reviews on Steam.

Are you interested in getting Stardew Valley on your respective console soon? If you’re overwhelmed by my praises of it and want it ASAP, you can download it from the Steam store for $14.99.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
