Nintendo has released another DLC weapon for Splatoon 2, and it’s available now. The umbrella-themed Splat Brella is ready to purchase in the in-game weapon store Ammo Knights to anyone level 9 or above.

Splatoon 2

The Splat Brella is an entirely new class of weapon for Splatoon 2. In its default form, players can fire ink from the Splat Brella like a shooter, but it also has a built-in defense mechanism. Holding ZR (the right trigger) will open the umbrella and shield you from enemy fire. If you hold ZR for about 2 seconds, the umbrella launches as a projectile attack and shields attacks as it moves.

Complementing the Splat Brella is the Sprinkler sub weapon and the very fitting Ink Storm special, which creates a moving cloud of falling ink over the map. The Splat Brella unlocks at level 9 and costs 8,300 coins.

In addition to the new weapon, Nintendo is giving Splatoon 2 players a line of summer-themed clothing and accessories. The Summer Vacation Collection was revealed on the official Splatoon Twitter account and is available for purchase via the SplatNet 2 Gear Shop in the Nintendo Switch Online app.

The last weapon added to the game was the Sploosh-O-Matic, which was introduced alongside the Mayo vs Ketchup Splatfest event. Nintendo should continue to bring intermittent free DLC’s to Splatoon 2, so expect more new weapons and clothing in the coming months. Hopefully we will see some more weapons in the Brella class — but after we’ve gotten the hang of the first one, please.

Splatoon 2 is available now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
