Splatoon 2’s First Worldwide Splatfest Results Are In

  • January 15, 2018
  • Mischa McGill

The first Splatfest of 2018 has concluded, and the results have been tallied. This was Splatoon 2‘s first ever global multiplayer event, as past ones divided the competition up by regions. For this Splatfest, players from around the world chose either Team Action or Team Comedy, depending on which movie genre they preferred. So which team came out on top?

After 24 hours of inking and splatting, Nintendo has revealed that although Team Action was more popular, Team Comedy took the most solo and team wins, thus giving them the victory for the Splatfest. 58% of players sided with Team Action, but those players only won 49% of both solo and team matches. The win percentage of both teams was very close, but Team Comedy ultimately claimed the Splatfest for themselves.

If you participated in the Splatfest, you can log into Splatoon 2 now to claim your Super Sea Snails. The winning team, of course, will be awarded more Super Sea Snails than the losing side, and those with a higher rank will receive more as well. Your rank is based on how much you contributed to your team during the event, with Kings/Queens receiving the highest payout at 24 Super Sea Snails — or 18 if your team lost.

This was the first Splatfest for Splatoon 2 where players from around the world were able to fight against each other. Past events took place at different times and with different themes depending on what region you were in. Nintendo has not committed to more global Splatfests, but I hope they will continue the trend.

Splatoon 2 hosts Splatfests every month, so we should hear about the game’s next multiplayer event from Nintendo in the next couple of weeks. We’ll keep you updated with the latest news.

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
