Splatoon 2 Single-Player Story Mode Revealed

Nintendo has revealed more details for the upcoming inky shooter Splatoon 2 in a new gameplay trailer for the game’s single-player mode. Watch the video below.

The above trailer shows off Splatoon 2’s solo mode gameplay where players will traverse Octo Valley’s diverse, inky areas while battling those pesky Octarians. The single-player story is rooted in Callie, one of the Squid Sisters, going missing. Callie’s sister Marie tasks the player with searching for Callie and the Great Zapfish. Players will use different ink-firing weapons to “overcome obstacles, defeat enemies and take down towering bosses.”

Some of the weapons will include revamped classics like the Roller, Slosher, Charger, Splattershot, and Splatling, as well as new additions like the double-pistols called the Splat Dualies. Each weapon features different charged special attacks that deal damage in unique ways. One special attack fires missiles at enemies you can lock on to, while another lifts you into the air to splat enemies from above.

Along with the story mode, Nintendo also revealed a colorful Splatoon 2 teaser poster, pictured below.

In addition to the single-player campaign, Splatoon 2 will offer a variety of multiplayer battle modes, both online and co-op.

The sequel is getting new maps, of course, but they’ll still rotate in pairs during online play like in the original. Instead of every four hours, though, maps in Splatoon 2 will switch up every two hours.

An open beta for Splatoon 2 gave some players a hands-on experience with the upcoming shooter. You can read my first impressions from the Global Testfire here.

Splatoon 2 launches on July 21st exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
