Splatoon 2: Mayo vs Ketchup Splatfest announced

Nintendo held their first Splatfest competition in last weekend’s Word Premier demo for Splatoon 2. The company has now revealed what the first Splatfest since the games launch will be about. Just like the demo, this one is about food.

The company announced the news on Twitter earlier today. The next Splatfest for Europe and North America will be over condiments. Mayonnaise or Ketchup. According to thee tweet the event will take place on the first weekend of August however, Nintendo hasn’t revealed a specific date just yet. This will be the first Splatfest since the game was first launched yesterday for the Nintendo Switch.

For those who don’t know, Splatfests are special events that are held on a regular basis and ask players to pick a side so they can earn points for that team. The topics range quite a bit and are not always the same around the world. For example, the World Premiere demo had players select between cake and ice cream in North America an Europe. While players in Japan had to select between rock and pop music.

Splatfests from the original Splatoon game included the following matchups:

  • Cats vs Dogs
  • Autoboys vs Decepticons
  • Cars vs Planes
  • Pirates vs Ninjas
  • Pokemon Red vs Pokemon Blue
  • Art vs Science

Clearly then the topics for these Splatfests are extremely varied and there’s no way of knowing what Nintendo will put out for the next one. Hopefully the company will announce some new details on this upcoming Splatfest very soon. It’s currently expected to take place in around two weeks time but there is currently no launch date for it. Nintendo should be announcing this within the next two weeks.

Splatoon 2 was released as a Nintendo Switch exclusive yesterday and has been incredibly well-received so far by game critics.
