Spider-Man, Frank West, Haggar, and Nemesis are in Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite

A shaky-cam version of Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite’s latest trailer has been uploaded to youtube and reveals a few new characters and moves.

Characters Announced

At the Marvel Games Panel, four characters were announced. They were:

Nemesis, Haggar, Spider-Man, and Frank West.

Haggar had a new level 3 animation, Spider-Man showed off a new kick and level 3, and Frank West has a new tripod move.

Spider-Man has been a MvC mainstay and one of the most popular comic book heroes, so his appearance is a no-brainer. Frank West is a deeper Capcom cut but well-loved by his fans.

Haggar replaced Zangief in MvC 3, as Zangief’s original Street Fighter 2 character was inspired by Haggar’s spinning lariat from Final Fight (in turn, Haggar borrowed Zangief’s Spinning Piledriver).

In the trailer, Gamora uses a ‘Mind Stone’ / ‘Inifinity Surge’ that appears to be a new wrinkle to the strategy.

The new characters will be playable tomorrow on the show floor, so expect more footage and details in the next 24 hours.

Many NeoGAF commenters were not impressed:

“4 returning characters from UMVC3, shocking.”

“Pretty meh reveal. No newcomer.”

Several mentioned their desire for Venom, a great character getting his own film starring Tom Hardy!

“Damn it, I want Venom.”

To which a cynnical Gaffer replied:

“Pay up for that season pass”

There are a few more panels over the next couple days, so expect more news as it happens.

“Universes merge in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, as the collaborative team from Marvel and Capcom discuss the immersive cinematic story featured in the upcoming game. Learn how both sides joined forces to bring the story to life, with iconic heroes from Marvel and Capcom teaming up to battle against a sinister new supervillain who threatens to destroy their newly formed world.”

How do you feel about the new additions? I loved Marvel vs Capcom 2 the most and will find it strange to not play as Wolverine.

Mathew is a huge fan of Space, Strategy, and Shadowrun (Genesis version is #1). When it comes to games and films, he’d much rather experience a 10/10 classic from yesteryear than a 6/10 modern blandfest. He does feel we’re living in a gaming golden age with the power of indie developers at an all-time high, but wishes AAA publishers would take more risks. Mat believes it’s only a matter of time before the pendulum swings the other way and new ideas take their rightful place above reboots.
