Bandai Namco has now released the first trailer for their upcoming game Code Vein. The announcement trailer confirms what we already know about the game and shows the first gameplay footage.

Players will be taking control of a currently unnamed Revenant, a vampire which has given up their humanity for powerful gifts. However, some give in to their bloodlust full and become one of the Lost. A horrifying ghoul-like creature which is has lost all of its humanity.

Revenants have access to Blood Veils which allow them to drain the blood of enemies. The blood is then used to enhance their skills which are called “Gifts”. They allow players to change their form and provide new weapon abilities. In addition to the powerful Gifts, the player will be able to use a wide range of weapons. According to the trailer description on YouTube, “players can adapt and strategize to a variety of battle conditions”. This should also allow players to create their own play styles.

The description for the trailer states that players are “tasked to embark into the world with a companion” in order to “uncover lost memories and exit this new demented reality”. While the game is set in the future, this suggests that there could be an alternate reality involved somehow.

Details on Code Vein are still very limited but the game will be coming for all major home consoles next year. This most likely means the game will be getting a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release. However, a PC release may also be possible.

Code Vein looks very similar to the Souls series. Some fans are already calling it the “anime vampire souls” game. However, more information about this game will be released over the coming months so it’s possible the game will actually be quite different.
