[Rumor Debunk] Dark Souls’ Miyazaki and Berserk’s Miura NOT collaborating

Yesterday, a reddit user claimed they “…visited FromSoftware while studying drawing abroad in Japan. I met Miyazaki as well as the editor of Berserk, who are collaborating!”

This set forums ablaze with ideas of what a potential collaboration between the two masters of dark fantasy could look like.

Unfortunately, it was a mistake

Gonzzink cleared up the confusion by blogging that it was actually a “Translation mistake, Miyazaki and Miura Collaboration Not Happening”

“Yes I did visit FromSoftware, and Hakusensha and spoke with the editor of Berserk. I have received an email and realize that I had made a huge mistake in my translation from Japanese to English.

I earlier shared information that Miura and Miyazaki were collaborating on a project together. However during the translation, I had misunderstood and they are not collaborating, but merely enjoy each others work”

Oh well.

Who are these people?

Hidetaka Miyazaki is the President of FromSoftware and creator/director of the Souls franchise and Bloodborne. The franchise wrapped up in 2016 with Dark Souls 3 and Miyazaki confirmed he is working on three different projects.

Kentaro Miura is the man behind Berserk, the popular, long-running Manga/Anime/Films. Here’s a video showing possible Berserk inspirations in Dark Souls

We still have three FromSoftware games to look forward to. Miyazaki has given a few scant details of what to expect.

“So there are several titles that we are currently working on…Some of those are dark fantasy, some of those could be a mech – that’s one thing. The second thing is that one of the new titles I’ve been working on will probably comply with the expectations from the fans in straightforward manner.”

The mention of dark fantasy and one of the titles lining up with fan expectations seems like an obvious hint towards a Souls-like title.

A potential mech title is also interesting as Miyazaki’s earlier Armored Core games could make a fantastic return with new tech, especially VR.

What Miyazaki game would you most like to play?

okay

Mathew is a huge fan of Space, Strategy, and Shadowrun (Genesis version is #1). When it comes to games and films, he’d much rather experience a 10/10 classic from yesteryear than a 6/10 modern blandfest. He does feel we’re living in a gaming golden age with the power of indie developers at an all-time high, but wishes AAA publishers would take more risks. Mat believes it’s only a matter of time before the pendulum swings the other way and new ideas take their rightful place above reboots.
