PUBG’s Desert Map Coming to Xbox One Soon

Console players picked up PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds — or PUBG — on Xbox One fairly quickly, but the content it offers is still a ways behind the original PC version of the game. PUBG Corp. is gradually catching up Xbox One PUBG to its PC counterpart, and today the company announced the game’s desert map will be coming to Xbox One for the first time next month.

PUBG Corp. revealed the addition of the desert map, called Miramar, at PAX East yesterday and followed up the announcement on PUBG‘s official Twitter account. The Xbox One version of the battle royale shooter currently offers only one map, the original called Erangel. Miramar is significantly smaller than Erangel but offers an entirely different landscape, more dynamic locations, and a different variety of weapons and vehicles. The company did not give a specific release date for the Miramar map on Xbox One, but they confirmed it will go live sometime in May, promising “more information coming soon.”

Even with the map addition, PUBG‘s Xbox One version will still be missing some significant content from the PC version. A third, much smaller map called Savage has been tested on PC recently. Savage’s limited size makes matches much more aggressive by forcing players closer together and into confrontation more frequently. Another PC-only feature is Event Mode, which offers limited-time only modes that mix up the game parameters, like the recent flare gun event.

There’s no telling if Xbox One PUBG will ever catch up to the content of the PC version, but adding the desert map will certainly satisfy some Xbox One players’ cravings for new content — at least for the time being. Miramar comes to Xbox One sometime in May, with additional updates to follow.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available now on PC,  Xbox One via early access, and iOS and Android mobile devices.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
