PUBG Creator Talks Single-Player, Reveals New Vehicle

  • September 26, 2017

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds continues to grow as one of the world’s most popular games right now. It recently passed 1.5 million concurrent users on Steam, which puts it a couple hundred thousand ahead of free-to-play Dota 2. You wouldn’t know it from the sales numbers, but PUBG is still in Early Access and releases regular updates with both bug fixes and content additions.

The game’s creator, Brendan Greene, recently discussed the future of PUBG in a Reddit AMA, where he pondered the possibility of a single-player campaign. Greene said he would “love” to add one to PUBG, which is currently online only with up to 100 players in a match. Last one to survive wins.

“I think the island we have could be a great location for an interesting story,” Green said, “but unfortunately we just don’t have the time or the resources for this at the moment!”

So no single-player in the works yet, but wouldn’t it be great to learn the story behind why 100 people are being dumped onto an island and forced to duke it out for chicken dinners? The island could be given a really interesting backstory. Maybe devs will have time to dig into a story once they make it to a full release.

Greene also mentioned three new vehicles were coming to PUBG. He recently revealed one of the new vehicles, pictured above, on his Twitter. Soon you and your squad can pile in a Volkswagen Bus, or you can take it for yourself and cruise around the island in style.

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds launched in Early Access on Steam this year at a $30 price point. No price increase is planned for the game’s full launch, which is expected sometime later this year on Xbox One.

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
