August’s batch of PS Plus games have been released, headlined by a couple older titles from big franchises.
Sony’s Jackbox-like That’s You was a part of the July package but will still be available through August. Smart move to get a brand new party game into as many hands as possible. I haven’t tried it myself but will attempt to get my girlfriend’s non-gamer friends to test it out this weekend.
As for the August crop, here they are.
Blasted for poor frame rates and long load times, a Digital Foundry revisit in 2016 discovered not much had changed. The impressive destruction was the culprit, resulting in unimpressive frame rates dipping below 20fps.
I’m a fan of standalone DLC being included in PS Plus. As long as no prior knowledge is required (which looks crazy as I write it), it could be a great way to give gamers a sample of a much larger universe.
Now if only I cared about Ass Creed.
One of my favorite E3 announcements. Rock Band was a great social game, but required expensive plastic instruments and the space to store them. Making use of phones is a trick Jackbox has used for years already.
A intriguing concept that many have called monotonous.
Downhill is a critically acclaimed mobile game but I hadn’t heard of the other PS3/Vita titles or even this version of Ass Creed (a standalone DLC to Black Flag). Just Cause 3 was an early title for this gen and should be good for a romp around their sandbocx.
The big titles in this lineup are the equivalent of the clearance sales we see so often in nearly every game’s lifespan. If Just Cause 3 was on sale for practically nothing, I’d probably buy it, and maybe never play it. This way it’s free, so the risk is even lower.
If I can get one interesting title out of the lineup (while owning all three consoles) I’m satisfied. Every once in awhile a real gem comes around too, though that seems to be far less common in the past two years.
How do you feel about the lineup?
