Well, kids, it’s not Pokémon Stars, but it’s still coming to the Switch! Nintendo revealed Pokken Tournament DX in this morning’s Direct livestream.
The company announced the Pokémon Direct on Twitter yesterday, leading to a night of worldwide speculation. Fans and Nintendo insiders alike predicted the reveal of a long-rumored Switch version of Pokémon Sun and Moon, codenamed Pokémon Stars. However, those predictions were proven wrong by the big N.
Pokken Tournament Deluxe will be a new version of the Wii U fighting game Pokken Tournament, and it’s coming this September. According to the Direct, this version will come with new features and an expanded lineup of fighters, including classic ones from the original arcade game and a brand new one from the most recent Pokémon title.
The new Pokémon you’ll be able to fight as include Darkrai, Scizor, Empoleon, Croagunk, and newcomer Decidueye.
Of course you’ll be able to play Pokken Tournament DX on your couch with your friends, but you can also play 3v3 team battles and online ranked matches. Some online features will require Nintendo’s paid online service, but that will be free of charge until 2018.
A playable demo of this fighting game will be available at E3 this month, and more details about it will be revealed at that time.
New series titles for the 3DS, Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, were also revealed in the Direct.
