Pokemon Go has finally been released in South Korea

Niantic has finally announced that Pokemon Go is now available in South Korea. It was released in South Korea today.

The hit mobile game still hasn’t received a completely global release but South Korea has finally been added to the release list.

The developer posted a short message on Twitter confirming this for eager South Korean users. The tweet tells users to “get up and go” as they can finally begin their journey.

Western users were unhappy with the announcement as many believed it was for another major update. Generation 2 is expected to be released in the near future and data miners from the Silph road have uncovered interesting pieces of code.

Niantic still hasn’t commented on the release date for other countries in Asia such as China. While this is bad news for some parts of Asia, Niantic has been busy updating the game.

The team released an update yesterday to match the South Korean launch. Pokemon Go now supports the Korean language.

January 17th Update

Just last week, Pokemon Go received a large update to fix some issues with the game. The GPS drift issue has existed in Pokemon Go ever since the game was first released last year. This drift causes the players avatar to move around on the map despite being in a stationary location. It allowed players to collect PokeStops, hatch eggs and catch Pokemon without moving.

The January 17th update fixed this issue so that the game accurately tracks players in the game and stops players from abusing the issue.

The other major change with this update is for the Apple Watch version. The Apple Watch now displays the eggs that players obtain from the PokeStops they visit.

While the patch notes are very short, it’s possible to see them on the official website here.
